CSA Options
What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture is a model that connects members of the community directly to local farmers. Traditional CSA’s require a payment(s) prior to the start of the season, which allows farmers to pay for the upfront cost of running the program (i.e. seeds, equipment, operating costs, etc.). Buying into the program is a benefit to the members because they receive a weekly bounty of locally grown seasonal produce for the entirety of the season at a discounted rate from what you would pay retail or at the farmers market. By becoming a member of a CSA program, however, you also share in the risk. In other words, if there is a crop failure (i.e. the broccoli got destroyed by bugs!) you won’t receive broccoli in your share. Buying into a CSA means you share the risk, but that we will share the rewards! If we have a bumper crop you get a share valued much higher than what you paid in.
Here at Wild Grown we’re taking on novel approach on the CSA in an effort to offer more flexibility and choice to our members. We will be offering a traditional CSA option (Seasonal “Farmers Pick”) AND a pay-as-you go CSA option (Weekly “Farmers Pick”). See below for further details about how these options will work.
How does it work?
We have three CSA options available in 2020: “Farmers Pick” Seasonal CSA, “Farmers Pick” Weekly CSA, and Weekly Egg Shares.
Seasonal CSA members commit to a 20 week growing season for an upfront cost of $440. The benefits of this option include a discounted rate of $8 per week (you’ll receive $30 worth of bounty for $22) and will receive a 10% discount on bulk orders (pickling season!). This option is for those who can afford to support our farm in the off season (we need to buy seeds, compost, and tools y’all!), want to commit to a full-season of weekly shares, and enjoy the convenience of knowing you’ll receive a share each and every week.
Weekly CSA members bypass the commitment and instead pay $30 per week for a farmers pick of bounty. This price represents a retail cost of the products in exchange for the flexibility to order or skip weeks as you need. Weekly CSA members will receive a 5% discount on bulk orders as long as they also order a share the same week. This options is great for those who can’t commit to a large-sum payment before the season but still want to support the farm. Additionally, this would be a great option for those who travel a lot during the summer and can’t commit to a weekly share.
Weekly Egg shares include one-dozen free-range eggs every week (20 weeks total) for $120. That comes out to $6 per dozen. Our flock includes Olive Eggers, Azure Eggers, Heritage Welsummer, and French Black Copper Marans which means you can expect multicolor eggs each week! We raise our birds on seasonal pasture and supplement with a high-quality Certified Organic feed from Scratch and Peck Feeds.
Our Growing Philosophy:
We know how important is to have healthy, living soils and we believe that soil nutrition directly corresponds with human nutrition. We’re growing in limited space (.18 acres to be exact!) so it’s even more important to have nutrient-dense, healthy, well-balanced soils to increase efficiency of production. While our farm is not Certified Organic (the cost is simply prohibitive for such a small operation) we grow everything using 100% organic methods and Certified Organic inputs. It’s what’s best for our family, our community, and Mother Earth. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail throughout the entire growing process; from the quality of seed to the cleanliness of the final product. Everything on our farm is produced without the use of gas; meaning we are not a mechanized operation and doing everything by hand.
We recognize the trust placed in us as farmers by our members. While we do have significant farming experience this will be our first season operating our own program. We therefore welcome feedback as it helps us grow as farmers and aids in creating the most beneficial program possible for our members.
What is the Cost?
Seasonal Shares are $440 for 20 weeks (May-October) of high-quality produce grown with love and organic practices. This averages out to $22 per week for a bounty valued at $30 retail. Additionally, members receive a 10% discount on bulk orders.
Weekly Shares are $30 per week with 5% discount on bulk orders as long as you also order a share the same week. Weekly shares are available from May-October.
Egg Shares are $120 for one-dozen eggs per week for 20 weeks (May-October). This averages to $6 per dozen.
What Are You Growing?
We’re planning to produce a diverse array of vegetables, fruits, herbs and processed goods. Below you will find items we estimate we will be harvesting this year in addition to a list of items we expect to see in the coming seasons. *Please note that just because something is listed DOES NOT mean you’re guaranteed to receive it in your shares. Farming is an unpredictable endeavor. If we don’t get a quality harvest off of something OR if harvesting would be detrimental to the health of our plants we will be unable to include it in your bounty.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What happens if we can’t pick up our share or if we will be out of town the week of pickup?
“Farmer’s Pick” Weekly Shares- you can simply choose to not place and order for that week!
“Farmer’S Pick” Seasonal Shares- was ask that you gift your weekly share to a friend, family member, or neighbor. Due to the nature of our program we do not offer refunds for missed pickups. If you cannot find someone to pickup your share please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. We harvest each share for same day pickup and in the spirit of reducing waste would not want to harvest a share that is not going to be picked up.
What happens if we did not pick up our share on pick up day?
After CSA pickup is finished all unclaimed CSA shares will be recycled back into our gardens ecosystem in the most sustainable way possible in order to eliminate waste. Some may go to our rabbits, our poultry flock, our pet worms, or our compost pile. We don’t have the capacity to store, deliver, or switch pickup days/times with members. Therefore, if you missed your share pickup we can’t store it and you won’t be refunded the cost of your order for that week.
Will the shares be limited?
Yes, we will be limiting our CSA to a certain number of members so act fast as we expect to fill up fast!
Can I cancel my share if I move, can’t keep up on the bounty, or simply wish to stop?
As the nature of the CSA is to invest in the farm early in the season to help the farmers to bare the brunt of anticipated costs all sales are final and we do not offer refunds. If you move during the CSA season you could gift the remaining pickups to a friend, family member or neighbor.
If you can’t keep up with the bounty PLEASE LET US KNOW! We don’t like to see the food we worked hard to grow wasted and we can work to help you get the most out of your share!
Will CSA members be able to buy certain fruits and vegetables in bulk?
Whenever we have a bumper crop we will offer them to our members to purchase at bulk pricing in addition to their CSA. Seasonal CSA members receive an additional discount as an added bonus to membership. Crops that may potentially be offered in bulk depending on the year could be tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, carrots, peppers, onions, and winter squash.
As a member, when can I visit the homestead?
The focus of our farm is 100% on our CSA members, which means that during the season we would love to have you visit! You’ll be stopping by to pickup your share anyways so please feel free to have us walk you around, show you recent projects, ask questions, and build community! If you intend to visit on a non-pickup day please let us know 48 hours in advance. This is our home and we also work off the homestead and have a varied schedule.
